Welcome back for the second semester of the 2023-24 school year and HAPPY NEW YEAR!
As we head back to class and work hard to finish the year strong, focus on being equipped and ready to go!
- Be sure to have all the necessary supplies to start the year right: pencils, paper, colored pencils, markers, textbooks, etc.
- Have a designated place to charge Chromebooks. It should be an easy spot to remember, one where it can be plugged in first thing after school and grabbed among the last things heading out the door in the morning. (And be sure the charger is plugged into the wall!)
- Where is the quiet homework space at home? What is the set time frame each evening for completing homework? Having an agreed area and time for homework will create a good work ethic and culture at home and encourage students to give their best.
- Keep handy the login for PowerSchool and regularly check grades at least once a week. Setting up a system of rewards for good grades also encourages engagement and buy-in.
- Parents can access their child's work through Canvas. Setting up a parent account allows accessibility and keeps students focused. Parents can also ask their student to show them their class's Canvas pages at any time as they know how to get there since they use Canvas daily.
- Have good conversations about expectations and set goals for the third quarter and for the second semester. What are realistic goals? Instilling a sense of urgency and accountability can go a long way toward making sure that parents and students are aligned and that students feel empower to achieve great things.
- Have questions? Just ask! The best way to learn is to ask questions if you're unsure of something. Parents are also encouraged to email teachers if they have questions about assignments, instruction, or the progress of their child.
Let's finish the year strong, and as Mr. Ridenour always says...WORK HARD, PLAY HARD!
